An Assoc. Professor in Biotech and Metabolic imaging, Debra Strick Rivera, PhD, is renowned for her patient-centric innovations at the interface between engineering and medicine. She was trained at UCLA as part of the first cohort of NeuroEngineers through the National Science Foundations sponsored initiative to create leaders capable of solving unmet needs. Dr. Rivera is an associate professor with the Eindhoven University of Technology Center for Care and Cures. She has penned ten patent applications and helped to raise over 100,000,000 euros (e.g., from the European Research Council Horizon 2020, Netherlands Research Organization) predominantly in the field of metabolomics. She has partnered with General Electric, Siemens, Philips, and Elekta, and has research ties across academic institutions and hospitals throughout the world. Deb has worked in industry as well, serving as CTO and Senior engineer at two MRI Hardware companies, training over 30 engineers in production methods that rely on rigorous measurements for quality assessment and reproducibility. Dr. Rivera secured ISO Certification and oversaw product development, including rigorous testing and documentation, for pre-production model hardware for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Dr. Rivera is a leader in quantitative measures, known for her creativity, systems approach to human biology, and passion for medical literature.
Elisa Clay, RN, MSN, FNP, is a distinguished leader in functional and integrative medicine with a profound commitment to public health. She began her nursing journey at Georgetown University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science. Elisa then worked as a critical care nurse while pursuing her Master of Science at UCLA, graduating as a Family Nurse Practitioner with a subspecialty in Neuropsychiatric Nursing.
Elisa's career is marked by her impactful work in public health. She served as the lead clinician and manager of the Sexual Health Program at the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center, where she managed two free clinics and collaborated closely with the Los Angeles Public Health Department. Elisa pioneered the nation’s first HIV post-exposure prophylaxis medication regimen, now a standard of care.
Transitioning to the Women's Health Clinic in Century City, Elisa expanded her clinical practice to include integrative and herbal treatments. Through the Institute of Functional Medicine, she discovered her ideal medical paradigm and now runs a private practice in Topanga, California.
Dr. Dahabada Helena Jose Lopes is a highly accomplished Senior Research Scientist with over 20 years of expertise in biochemistry, structural and molecular biology, R&D, and project management. She holds a PhD in Biological Chemistry from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the University of Sao Paulo, and an MD from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Dr. Lopes has extensive experience in protein-protein interactions, neurodegenerative diseases, and drug design and development. She has held prominent research positions, including Senior Research Scientist at the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics, where she managed NIG/VA grants and mentored students globally. Her work at Dynamix Medical in London involved evaluating non-invasive methods for early lung cancer detection using AI and ML algorithms.
As a researcher at UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine, she focused on amyloid diseases and biophysical characterization of drug-peptide interactions. At Cedars Sinai Medical Hospital, she managed primary and cell culture establishments and developed research approaches for Alzheimer's disease.
Dr. Lopes's research on the metabolism hormone amylin has increased understanding of the mechanisms of amylin folding, aggregation, and its role in metabolic diseases such as Type II Diabetes--contributing to the development of new therapeutic strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of amylin aggregation.
At Journey Metrics we believe that patients often have key insights that can improve outcomes and accelerate innovation. The patient is at the center of the journey!
We are fortunate enough to have a patient advocate / patient on our team that knows how to use language to empower.
